This guy really knows what counts in life: his “pasta & pizza” based diet seems to be the secret behind the 8 gold medals in Beijing…
from the Wall Street Journal Health Blog:
Lunch: One pound of enriched pasta. Two large ham and cheese sandwiches with mayo on white bread.
Energy drinks packing 1,000 calories.
Dinner: One pound of pasta. An entire pizza. More energy drinks.
PS: 1 pound ~ 0.5 Kg
Then he should devote at least one medal to Italy .. or pay some royalties to italian pasta manufactures (I suppose he only eat original pasta) or make some donations to the city of Naples.. (–> history of pizza )

I understand, it’s in „fun” subject, but for some may by interesting. I read recently an interview (unfortunately in polish) with coach of polish swimmers about Phelps “phenomena” :).
He said some really interesting stuff. E.g. Phelps swimming technique is far from being perfect (especially in crawl). What is so special about him (among many others for sure) is body proportions. He has relatively short legs, comparing to rest of his body (similar proportions had Natalie Coughlin, some Olympic champion). Big part of coach job nowadays is focused on searching people with similar body. Of course it’s not the only thing, but it gives you certainly advantage at the beginning.
What is really amazing about this guy is, that he makes really super performance in some many competitions. It may seem, swimming is all the same, but… sprint for 100m and 400m with changing style… that is completely different thing. Different technique, different organisms work… two planets. And managed to master them both… That’s what people admire most.
He was simply born to be swimmer, he was perfectly trained, and he’s very ambitious gay with super strong psychic. (and pasta, lots of pasta
That’s the secret of Michael Phelps, the greatest Olympics sportsman ever.
Respect!
